Visitors will have a better idea how to get where they’re going in Ladysmith’s downtown with the addition of new wayfinding signs.

The recent installation of the new signage took place in April as one of the final stages of work made possible via Canada Community Revitalization Funding.

The town received word in December 2022 that it had been granted $407,000 for various improvements to the town. Ladysmith received funding for projects such as a Level 2 electric vehicle charging station, two themed crosswalks, welcome signs at both ends of town, enhanced heritage artifact signage, interlocking brick paver upgrades on some sidewalks, refreshed downtown furniture and the installation of the new tourism and wayfinding signage.

In April, contractors put in the bases, hardware and electrical wiring for the signs. There are eight signs in total located along 1st Avenue and Roberts Street. The signs include two illuminated gateway signs, one at the Aggie Hall and the other at 1st and Roberts. The other signs are four illuminated pedestrian maps, one directional sign and one community information sign in front of the visitor information centre.

“Ladysmith is receiving federal grant funding to refresh downtown amenities, supporting local businesses and economic development, while also creating a more inclusive and welcoming gathering space for all,” noted a statement from the town.
